IFTA Deadlines 2026: Quarterly Calendar + Penalties Explained
If you operate qualified motor vehicles across two or more IFTA jurisdictions, you owe a quarterly fuel-tax report. Here are the 2026 deadlines, the penalty structure, and the fastest way to file.
2026 IFTA filing deadlines
- Q1 (Jan–Mar): Due April 30, 2026
- Q2 (Apr–Jun): Due July 31, 2026
- Q3 (Jul–Sep): Due October 31, 2026
- Q4 (Oct–Dec): Due January 31, 2027
Penalty structure
Late or missing reports trigger a $50 minimum penalty or 10% of the net tax due — whichever is greater — plus interest of 1% per month per jurisdiction. Repeated late filings can lead to license revocation by your base jurisdiction.
What you actually need to file
- Total miles driven in each jurisdiction
- Total taxable gallons purchased in each jurisdiction
- Fuel receipts (kept for at least 4 years)
- Trip records showing routes and odometer readings
How to never miss another quarter
Run a TMS that auto-tallies miles by state from your dispatched loads and pulls fuel-by-state from the receipts you photograph in the driver app. The IFTA report becomes a button click instead of a weekend.
