Accessorial Charge
An accessorial charge is any fee billed in addition to the base line-haul rate, such as detention, layover, tarping, liftgate, lumper, stop-off, driver assist or reconsignment. Accessorials often decide whether a load is profitable.
Why it matters
Accessorials must be documented at the time they occur; unbilled detention is one of the largest silent losses in small fleets.
