What is Consignee?

The consignee is the party receiving the freight at destination, named on the bill of lading. The consignee signs for delivery and notes any exceptions such as damage or shortage.

Why it matters in day-to-day operations

Exceptions noted by the consignee at delivery are the starting point of nearly every freight claim.
