Taxable Miles
Taxable miles are the miles driven in an IFTA jurisdiction on public roads that count toward fuel tax liability. They exclude non-taxable miles such as certain fuel-trip-permit miles and, in some states, off-highway or toll-road miles.
Why it matters
Total miles and taxable miles are reported separately on the IFTA return, so mileage records must distinguish them.
